Monday - July 10, 2006

Day just for driving. Started at 9:30 from Macon, GA after breakfast at Waffle House. I was amazed by the capability of Richard, the cook. He took the orders mentally and was preparing at least 5-6 orders at a time. It was true poetry in motion.

Drove for 2 hours on Hwy 129 & Hwy 441 cutting across to the NE to bypass Atlanta. Went from Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and now into Christianburg, VA on Interstate 81 about 30 miles from Roanoke (my original destination). Pulled in about 6:45 PM after 460 miles. Eyes are tired so am going to get a good nights sleep.

I've checked into a Days Inn and am sitting in the lobby typing this due to the fact that I cannot get a signal in my room. Going NE on 81 to PA and then to Gettysburg tomorrow. Only about 350 miles to go. Am going to meet Roger Bauman from Walnut Grove, Minnesota somewhere here in Virginia or Pennslyvania. We will call by phone and determine where in the morning. Haven't seen him for about 2 years so it will be great to see him even if for only an hour. He is driving truck and is headed to Tennessee from Maine.

Not much more for this post... no pictures taken because of driving. Interstates 85 in Georgia and South Carolina were cool, Interstate 77 north from Charlotte, NC went through part of the Appalachians .....really cool, and now onto 81 coming out of the mountains going east.

More tomorrow from Gettysburg where I'll stay two nights.

Bye for now.
