Appomatix Court House - July 16, 2006

My visits in western Virginia today took me to the location where the Civil War ended in April 1865. This is where General Lee surrendered to General Grant ending 4 years of war and bloodshed. The confederate officers were allowed to keep their sabers and side arms. Anyone who had a mule or a horse was allowed to keep those also. The Union provided each man with a "pass" to ensure when they were stopped by union troops on their way home, the pass indicated that they had been given a paroled surrender at Appomatix and were not to become prisoners. Also, if the "rebs" found a union quartermaster, this pass would allow them to get shoes, clothing, and food. I took alot of pictures and have included the ones that I feel depict the serinity of the place. Very quite and peaceful. I will add labels later.

Thanks for the spinning wheel. It looks like it's in pretty good shape. And, again, pictures are awesome.
